Peak Tram
Another tramway in Hong Kong is a cable-hauled funicular railway, operated by Peak Tramways Company Limited since
1888. The 1.4 kilometre line starts from Central (Garden Road) and the Peak (Victoria Gap), with four stops in
the route, climbing 373 metres on gradient as steep as one-in-two. The line carries about 9,000 passengers a day,
mainly tourists and local sightseers. Major modernization work of the funicular was completed in August 1989, which
includes a new haulage system, semi-automatic operation and two new twin-set tramcars built in Switzerland. These
new tramcars carry more than 10 500 passengers daily, most of whom are tourists .A single trip for adults costs
$18, and $9 for a child.
